Manifesto

Health of the Umande People

  • Have at least a well-equipped Level 3 hospital in Umande, with medicine and qualified doctors, including two well-equipped dispensaries for minor ailments.
  • Have well-equipped maternity facilities for delivering mothers.
  • Work hard to get donors for our medical services partnership.
  • Hold at least one major medical camp for diagnosis, so that medical conditions are captured early for better treatment and reversal.
  • Bring in lifestyle disease experts for conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis and eye, ear, nose and throat (ENT) problems. These experts will educate people on how best to live their lives.
  • Ensure that under this leadership Umande has a well-equipped ambulance for emergency cases.

Education for Umande Children

Currently there is no well-defined education policy in Umande. This is evident because Early Childhood Development (ECD) has been completely neglected, yet it is an MCA function.

  • Upgrade and equip our current primary schools with laboratories and all the necessary education tools.
  • Improve secondary education by equipping the current laboratories and building more classrooms.
  • Ensure both primary and secondary school teachers have comfortable, spacious staffrooms.
  • Request and encourage the county government to put up a well-equipped polytechnic in Umande as part of TVET.
  • Find the best strategies to motivate Umande teachers, especially in schools where pupils and students have done well: a good bursary policy, funded holidays for teachers and principals, donors to support children from poor families, and cordial meetings between teachers, parents and other stakeholders.
  • Come up with policies to remove the high burden of school fees from parents.
  • Have at least two well-equipped ICT centres for the youth, to encourage online jobs, learning and AI adoption.

Agriculture

  • Encourage good farming in Umande by funding seminars led by experts in various agricultural methods, such as horticulture, subsistence farming, pest control, poultry, cattle keeping and rabbit keeping.
  • Motivate farmers by looking for good markets for their products through the elimination of brokers.
  • Look for a market for skins and hides in Umande, and bring in companies that buy skins and hides, such as Adidas and Nike.
  • Encourage irrigation and good water use by digging community boreholes. All this will help us build a good value chain for agriculture.

Infrastructure

  • Improve the current roads by ensuring that all of them are all-weather roads and well maintained.
  • Work on permanent bridges to join villages and communities.
  • Ensure that at least most homes are connected with electricity, by requesting the county government to chip in to bring down the cost. This is possible through the Umande development fund.
  • Encourage the adoption of renewable energy, such as solar, in homes and schools to reduce the cost of recurring electricity expenditure.
  • Have at least two modern markets in Umande for Mama Mboga to sell their products.
  • Create saccos for bodaboda riders so that they can thrive in their business.
  • Endeavour to have group insurance cover for bodabodas, women's groups and men's groups.
  • Endeavour to build good football and volleyball fields to encourage competitive practice of these sports, which are big industries in the world today. Through MCA funding we shall provide balls and other equipment for these sports, including darts, tennis and basketball, and each year we shall hold a major sports tournament through county funding.

Security in Umande

  • In collaboration with the county and national governments, have the Umande police stations well and modernly equipped with good cars, motorbikes, phones, Wi-Fi and laptops to enhance security in Umande.
  • Nyumba Kumi: in collaboration with local chiefs and sub-chiefs, have elders (wazees) and mothers (mamas) form Nyumba Kumi groups elected by their local people, and have them paid at least two thousand shillings per month through the MCA.
  • Mulika Mwizi: install lighting in shopping centres and all critical areas, powered by solar panels to cut down the running cost.

Other Areas of Focus

  • Elderly people: neglected and lonely elderly people will be supported through MCA county funding, in collaboration with the church. We shall form elderly people champions, who are volunteers but will be supported by the county government through the MCA kitty to support elderly people with basic needs, and to have them visited by their respective church groups.
  • Endeavour to have a donor-sourced programme for elderly dental replacement and maintenance.
  • Support for needy widows and widowers.
  • Support young couples in their marriages, for example through counselling and help in needy financial cases.
